Comparative Employment

Published: February 2007

This fact sheet compares the number of employed residents in Birmingham with the number of employed residents in other major cities in Britain (the Core Cities) between 1998 and 2005 using data from the Annual Business Inquiry Employee Survey.

Employment levels in Birmingham over that period have shown a slight rise – a trend that is reflected in the figures for most, but not all, of the other cities.

In 1998 469,200 Birmingham residents were employed compared to 495,300 in 2005.
