Population data for Birmingham is derived from the 2005 mid-year population estimates from ONS. It should be noted that this data is classed as experimental and is not official data. Please visit the ONS Experimental Statistics page for further details.

It shows that:

• Total population increasd by 1.9% (18,400) between 2001 and 2005;
• Most ethnic minority groups recorded a growth in population, with growth being proportionally strongest in the Black African and Chinese ethnic groups;
• Population has declined for the White British, White Irish and Black Caribbean ethnic groups.
