Unemployment Briefing - April 2007

This document is the April 2007 issue of the BEIC's monthly Unemployment Briefing. Unemployment data is released monthly by the Office for National Statistics. The Unemployment Briefing is produced using this data and published on the day of each release.


The Briefing contains unemployment totals and rates for March 2007. It presents data for Birmingham, the 40 Birmingham wards, the West Midlands Region and the UK.


March unemployment figures published on the 18th of April 2007 show that:

  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment count for the U.K. fell by 9,200 in March. The count now stands at 910,800. The rate fell to 3.3%.
  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment benefit count for the West Midlands Region fell by 900 to 108,100. The rate remained at 4.5%.
  • In Birmingham the seasonally adjusted jobless total decreased by 604 to 36,752 in March. The City's adjusted claimant rate fell to 9.2%.
