Unemployment Briefing - June 2007

This document is the June 2007 issue of the BEIC's monthly Unemployment Briefing. Unemployment data is released monthly by the Office for National Statistics. The Unemployment Briefing is produced using this data and published on the day of each release.


The Briefing contains unemployment totals and rates for May 2007. It presents data for Birmingham, the 40 Birmingham wards, the West Midlands Region and the UK.


May unemployment figures published on the 13th of June 2007 show that:

  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment count for the U.K. fell by 9,300 in May. The count now stands at 880,400. The rate remained at 3.2%.
  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment benefit count for the West Midlands Region fell by 900 to 103,400. The rate remained at 4.3%.
  • In Birmingham the seasonally adjusted jobless total decreased by 282 to 35,258 in May. The City's adjusted claimant rate fell to 8.8%.
