Unemployment Briefing - July 2007

This document is the July 2007 issue of the BEIC's monthly Unemployment Briefing. Unemployment data is released monthly by the Office for National Statistics. The Unemployment Briefing is produced using this data and published on the day of each release.


The Briefing contains unemployment totals and rates for June 2007. It presents data for Birmingham, the 40 Birmingham wards, the West Midlands Region and the UK.


New for this month is our Unemployment Key Fact Sheet, which gives a summary of the latest data for the city.

June unemployment figures published on the 18th July 2007 show that:

  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment count for the U.K. fell by 13,800 in June. The count now stands at 864,100. The rate fell to 3.1%.
  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment benefit count for the West Midlands Region fell by 1,200 to 102,100. The rate fell to 4.2%.
  • In Birmingham the seasonally adjusted jobless total decreased by 629 to 34,629 in June. The City's adjusted claimant rate fell to 8.6%.
