Unemployment Briefing - November 2007

This document is the November 2007 issue of the BEIC's monthly Unemployment Briefing. Unemployment data is released monthly by the Office for National Statistics. The Unemployment Briefing is produced using this data and published on the day of each release.


The Briefing contains unemployment totals and rates for October 2007. It presents data for Birmingham, the 40 Birmingham wards, the West Midlands Region and the UK.


This is the fifth month where we have included an Unemployment Key Facts Sheet, which gives a summary of the latest data for the city.

October unemployment figures published on the 14th of November 2007 show that:

  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment count for the U.K. fell by 9,900 in October. The count now stands at 824,800. The rate remained at 3.0%.
  • The seasonally adjusted unemployment benefit count for the West Midlands Region fell by 200 to 100,000. The rate remained at 4.1%.
  • In Birmingham the seasonally adjusted jobless total increased by 744 to 34,724 in October. The City's adjusted claimant rate rose to 8.7%.
